Over the course of my teaching career and outreach work at the University of East Anglia and then at the University of Edinburgh, I have been very fortunate for my work to be awarded and recognised by my employers and external bodies. While these awards act as positive reinforcements, they have also strengthened my convictions in many areas of my teaching practice, pedagogy, the use of technology in language teaching as well as outreach work. a

2. Award for Excellence in External Engagement (Runner Up) [2016]
- Awarding Body: College of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences, U. of Edinburgh
- When: 28th September 2016
- The Award: “This Award will focus on an aspect of a broad range of engagement/outreach activities which might include engaging new audiences with the work of the University or outreach to support a wider community.”
- “The runner-up of the Award for Excellence in External Engagement was Mr Mourad Diouri from the School of Literatures, Languages & Cultures. Mourad was nominated for his outstanding efforts in organising the first Edinburgh Arab Festival which aimed to open up a new forum inviting the community to experience the beauty, diversity and richness of the Arab World. The festival was highly praised and allowed visitors to gain insight into Arab Culture through live and scheduled workshops, speeches and seminars in poetry, storytelling, film screenings, food tasting and much more. “It was a great pleasure to take part in the first ever Edinburgh Arab Festival. I was humbled by the organisers’ efforts to achieve many events in a very short period of time, it was a testament of their commitment and hard work.”

3. e-Assessment Innovation Award (Winner) [2011]
- Awarding Body: e-Assessment Association, Scotland
- When: 25-26th Aug2011
- The Award: According to the e-Assessment Association, this overarching category combined elements of formative, summative, mobile, facilitating assessment and e-portfolio in e-Assessment. The Scottish e-Assessment Award for Innovation highlighted an example of best practice in e-Assessment, which clearly demonstrated the full potential of the technology and its practical application. 4. Formative e-Assessment Award (Highly Commended) [2011]
- Awarding Body: e-Assessment Association, Scotland
- When: 25-26th Aug 2011
- The Award: According to the e-Assessment Association, this category involved the process of evaluating learner progress which is used to modify learning and teaching. The winner clearly demonstrated how technology has been used for the practice of formative e-Assessment.
5. eLearning Awards (Shortlisted for “Excellence in the Production of e-Learning Content) [2009]
- Awarding Body: eLearning Age, BizMedia Ltd, UK
- When: 29 Sep 2009
- Award Submission: Harnessing Social Web 2.0 Tools for Continuous e-Assessment of Language Learners
- The Award: “This award recognised the excellent content that enabled learning for those working in the not-for-profit sector. Excellence was judged on: the contribution made to individual learning and performance; the views of learners and other key stakeholders; the impact on organisational performance”
- According to the the judges’ feedback, they were impressed with the eLearning agenda in general and how it had a positive impact on students. The judges noted that CASAW (Centre for the Advanced Study of the Arab World) was the only shortlisted institution to use the widest variety and selection of tools and technologies to deliver eLearning.
6. Teaching Excellence Award for Innovative Course Design & Teaching Strategies [2004-2005]

- When: July 2005
- The Award: “The way that Mourad Diouri (LLT) managed to design the school’s Arabic course from scratch particularly impressed the panel. His students appreciate the way he brings the Arab world and its culture alive and 6the meticulous planning he puts into seminars”
